The global production of plastic packaging amounts to 78 million tons per year. After use, only 14% of this packaging is recycled, while 14% is incinerated to generate energy.

Furthermore, 40% ends up in landfills, where it slowly decomposes over decades. In addition, 32% of this packaging ends up uncontrolled in the environment, which represents a significant burden of microplastics for ecosystems.

An analysis of the origin of plastic waste in the sea shows that the Asia-Pacific region is responsible for an impressive 80%. Africa follows with 8%, while South America is well behind with 5.5% and North America with 4.5%. Europe, on the other hand, contributes only minimally to total pollution at less than 1%.

6 - 24 months
PHASE 1: Storage and use
The technology is inactive during the storage and use phase. The packaging behaves in exactly the same way as its non-degradable conventional counterparts.
3 - 5 months
PHASE 2: Disposal
If the Bio PP spunbond is intentionally or unintentionally released into the environment, prolonged exposure to various environmental stimuli such as UV light, moisture, heat or air will trigger a rapid transformation into wax.
12 months
PHASE 3: Biotransformation
The resulting bioavailable wax is metabolized by naturally occurring bacteria and fungi in the soil under moderate to high temperature conditions.
